Meet the 3rd post from our GPCRs campaign! Two previous posts are here (Post #1) and here (Post #2)!
This year, a group of scientists published an article called ‘Evolving cryo-EM structural approaches for GPCR drug discovery’.
Traditionally G protein-coupled receptors need to be biochemically stabilized to be studied by cryo-EM, but this work shows, that it is possible to obtain high-quality 3D reconstructions without the need for a stabilizing nanobody.
Besides that, they attempted to replace 300kV imaging with 200kV in order to reduce imaging costs. This point is also very important due to the fact, that cost of such analysis can be a serious limitation towards discovering more structures.
