Case Study

Chemspace's customer is an agricultural biotech company.

The customer conduct glasshouse screening and was looking for a solution to purchase, aggregate, plate and ship a custom screening libraries alongside with their in-house compound collection for next pooling.

The compound libraries needed to be plated, dissolved, and formatted into assay-ready plates, then shipped both internally and to external partners to carry out HTS campaigns.

Chemspace utilized the Optimal Quote Internal Tool to identify and source compounds in the required format. Whenever possible, samples were procured in pre-weighed solid form (3 µmol per tube) to optimize both budget and time efficiency.

Suppliers weighed the compounds into consumables specified by Chemspace, after which they were shipped from 9 different suppliers to our partner for aggregation and reformatting. Chemspace overseeing all logistics and customs clearance.

The continuous (real-time) compound management that was applied ensured high flexibility and precision in the preparation and distribution of compounds for assays. Here's a breakdown of the process:

  1. Compounds' Delivery The customer's in-house collection was delivered as dry powders, providing flexibility in terms of storage and future use.
  2. On-Demand Repackaging Compounds were repackaged into multiple batches as required, allowing for tailored preparation. This method optimizes inventory use and reduces waste, ensuring that only the compounds needed for specific assays are processed.
  3. Flexible Plating for Assays Plating were performed on demand, ensuring that compounds are dispensed into plates optimized for specific assays. This flexibility allows for efficient preparation of a wide variety of assay-ready plates as per the customer's needs.
  4. Instant Dissolution Dissolution was carried out instantly in the required solvents and concentrations, which significantly speeds up the process and provides real-time compound preparation for any assay requirement.
  5. Customer-Specific Maps & Pre-Purchased Standards By utilizing customer-specific plating maps, compounds were formatted exactly as required for the customer's specific assay needs. Additionally, using pre-purchased standards allows for the customization of compound libraries, making sure that the compounds are ready for screening and tailored to the customer’s scientific protocols.
  6. Data Registration Register customer details and compound information, including batch numbers, assay requirements, and QC data, into the customer’s account in CDD Vault like databases for seamless tracking and management.
