In 2019, a group of researchers discovered, that azaspiro[3.3]heptanes can act as replacements for morpholines, piperidines, and piperazines in a medicinal chemistry context.
Besides that, the authors concluded that azaspiro[3.3]heptanes are most likely not suitable as bioisosteres, when not used as terminal groups, due to significant changes in their geometry.
